    1.Principle

    Many organic compounds dissolved in water absorb ultraviolet light. Therefore, the content of dissolved organic pollutants in water can be accurately measured by measuring the absorption of these organic compounds to 254 nm wavelength UV light. KCD310 online COD sensor uses two light sources, one ultraviolet light to measure COD content in water, the other reference light to measure turbidity of water, in addition, the optical path attenuation is compensated by a special algorithm, which can eliminate the interference of particulate impurities to a certain extent, so as to achieve a more stable and reliable measurement.

    5.Installation and Electrical Connection

    5.1 Installation

    When hanging sensor should avoid because of the flow of water, install sensor, not more than 2 meters from the water surface depth Into a sensor that hits a wall or other hydraulic structure, If the current is very strong, please fix the sensor.


    Install the sensor no more than 2 meters from the water surface.


    The sensor was lowered 30cm below the lowest possible water level, taking into account the fluctuation of water level.



    The sensor is placed in the water where there are no bubbles.



    It is recommended to install a cable sheath outside the sensor cable. The sensor is positioned horizontally and firmly, and the measuring area is oriented toward the current.

    5.2 Electrical Connection

    The cable is a 4-core twisted pair shielded wire defined in line sequence:

    Red wire -- power cord (12 ~ 24VDC)

    Black line (GND)

    Blue Line -- 485a

    White line -- 485b

    Before electrification, the wiring sequence should be carefully checked to avoid unnecessary losses caused by wiring errors.

    Wiring instructions: Consider the cable long-term immersion in water (including seawater) or exposed to air, all wiring are required to do waterproof treatment, customer cable should have a certain anti-corrosion ability.

    6.Maintenance

    6.1 Maintenance Schedule and Methods

    In order to ensure accurate measurement, cleaning is very important, regular cleaning of the sensor, contribute to the stability of data.

    Maintenance Method

    1) sensor surface: clean the sensor surface with tap water. If debris remains, wipe with a damp soft cloth. For stubborn dirt, add some household detergent to the tap water to clean.

    2) check the wire of the sensor: the wire should not be taut when it is working normally, otherwise it is easy to break the wire inside the wire and cause the sensor can not work normally.

    3) check if the sensor’s measuring window is dirty and the cleaning brush is normal.

    4) check the sensor brush for damage.

    5) after 18 months of continuous use, return to factory to replace the dynamic sealing device.

    Points to Note

    The probe contains sensitive optical and electronic components. Make sure the probe doesn’t get hit by any heavy machinery. There are no parts inside the probe that require user maintenance.

    6.2 Calibration of Sensors

    Turbidity Calibration

    Zero calibration: take the right amount of zero turbidity liquid with the Big Beaker, put the sensor in the solution vertically, and calibrate the zero point after 3 ~ 5 minutes of numerical stabilization. Instruction Reference Appendix.

    Slope calibration: the sensor is placed in a solution in 100NTU standard solution for 3 ~ 5 minutes after numerical stabilization. Instruction Reference Appendix.

    Cod Calibration

    Khp (Potassium hydrogen phthalate, C8H5KO4) is a common chemical reagent, which can be used to prepare COD standard solution.

    Preparation of standard solution

    1 accurately weigh 0.8503g KHP into 1000ml flask. Fill with distilled or deionized water to the highest level. This solution is 1000 mg/l COD solution.

    2 pour 100 mL of the solution into a 1000 mL flask, then fill to the highest level with distilled or deionized water. After shaking, the concentration of COD was 100 mg/L. The solution with concentration of 5 mg/L was prepared by the same method.

    Store the concentrated standard solution (step 2.1) in a black glass bottle and store at low temperature to prevent its decomposition. Diluted standard solution (step 2.2) should be used within 24 hours of preparation.

    Calibration (2 point calibration)

    1 the sensor was placed into 5 mg/L COD solution, and all light paths were confirmed to be immersed in water > 2 cm without bubbles. Zero calibration as per appendix command.

    2 put the sensor into 100MG/L COD solution and calibrate the slope according to the appendix command.

    Note: 1. KHP has carcinogenic risk, please wear gloves when operating, avoid contact with skin.

    2. When calibrating, first calibrate the temperature, then calibrate the turbidity, then calibrate the COD.

    3. If the slope is calibrated and the sensor value does not change within 3 minutes, power off and power back on.
